Joel S –
I typically use Scalarworks or LaRue MRO mounts but was tired of spending $125-$200 on top of the optic just for a nice 1/3rd Co-witness mount so I took a chance and tried one of these UTG mounts on my last AR build. Yes, you don’t get quick detachment without tools like you do on the two (much) more expensive options, but with a co-witnes red dot setup you can still use the iron sights without removing the dead dot sight so who would want to pull it off in a hurry anyway? The build quality and lightweight design of the UTG blew me away, especially for the price. Would 7075 aluminum be stronger and lighter? Sure, a tiny bit, but the price wouldn’t be under $30 either. Don’t let the name and cheap price fool you, this is an attractive, lightweight and durable MRO mount. And those who look down on UTG might be surprised to learn that unlike most of their competitors, they have actual government contracts supplying Handguards to the US military so I trust their qualifications.
